We just returned from Budapest - Aladbardos is as you describe - We went with the chef's menu - We were gifted with an 'Amuse' course served very modern a bite of apple foam with goat cheese (not sure exactly) and a 'shot' of carrot soup.

Then all four of us were surprised that the first course was goose liver, which is not a surprise in Hungry at all of course, it was just we were under the impression first course was a salad?!? Main course for Holy Friday was choice of the Pikeperch fish or 'Lamb of two kinds', rib chop and a 'meat' loaf. Both were excellent - the fish is of a type with little flavor, the lamb was very flavorful and very pink the ground lamb ball was also extra tasty.

A high-LIGHT was the soup course a Goulash Soup served on the fine china (as you mention) but, flaming! That's right they flame the saucer around the bowel and you watch you soup bubble in place while you wait for the flame to go out. I was happy to have this standard dish of the country elevated to such a level.

The desert was billed as a secret! We also received a second chef's gift of Basil Ice Cream - Nice! Then the secret desert - I won't spoil it for you but it was fab-o!

Guitar music was great - Stairway to Heaven, If I were a Rich Man, Beatles, as well as classics.

Only down side to me - the chairs are not very comfortable. The backs too straight, the seats of the chairs sag below the frames.

Service is impeccable, grand dinning; for four, on the chef's menu with a good bottle of Hungarian Red for around $350 USD
